Dwayne Bowe, pictured above NOT arranging for a group of Nohos to come party, just won’t keep quiet. A while back we reported on his comments regarding having women imported for fun with the Chiefs, and since then he’s gone on the record as saying his statements were taken out of context. Well, Dwayne is sticking to his story, and he took to the airwaves to let it be known. Joel Thurman with Arrowhead Pride reports:
“No [my teammates don’t give me a hard time] because now they are finding out that it definitely wasn’t me,” Bowe said. “But I took that like a man. People that really know the Dwayne Bowe that clowns but on a serious note won’t let anything out of the locker room that is not supposed to be out.”
Okay, fair enough. Sounds like the locker room has taken Bowe at his word and all is forgotten. But Bowe and the members of the Chiefs aren’t the only ones with their credibility in question; ESPN has a bit at stake, seeing as how they reported the story. Here’s what they had to say about Bowe’s latest comments:
“As we have said, we will happily allow Mr. Bowe the chance to listen to our recording of his interview, in the event he forgot that he made these comments. He has not asked to do so.
“Despite his persistence in denying having made these comments–unfairly damaging the reputation of one of our best writers–we have consistently avoided releasing the audio from his interview to spare him and others further embarrassment, specifically because on the recording he offers more lurid details than we published and because he named several teammates as having participated in the off-hours activity in question.
“We do not know why Mr. Bowe persists in denying having made the comments, but out of respect for him, his teammates and the Chiefs we will maintain our position, which we think is the honorable choice. We believe The Magazines’ reputation for honesty and integrity speaks for itself.”
I’m inclined to believe that Dwayne suffers from a severe case of loose lips. He got too comfortable during an interview and spilled some facts that shouldn’t have ever seen the light of day, which if anything is a credit to The Worldwide Leader and their staff. But to continue to belabor this mini-feud is stupid on his part, because while they’ve been fairly planted on the high ground, I doubt any institution can continue to sit back and allow someone to discredit their staff, especially if said member of staff is right. I’m not saying that they’ll eventually offer the audio willingly, but to think a “leak” is out of the question is naive.
Let it be, Dwayne. Let it be.
