I honestly don’t think this fight will ever happened.
I give Bob Arum credit for making it appear everything is done and they are just waiting for Mayweather’s signature, but I have sources that tell me that the deal is not close and Arum is just trying to sway public opinion in Pacquiao’s favor.
It is a smart move by Arum one that he has done before, but the facts are that we are more likely to get Pacquiao vs. Cotto 2 or Pacquiao vs. Margarito (two fights no one wants to see) before we get Mayweather vs. Pacquiao.
ESPN.com has more details:
“We’re ready to go on with the Mayweather fight,” Arum said, “but we have to make contingency plans just in case and I don’t really want to talk about that too much. But Mayweather has until the end of the week. He could wait until the last minute. If it’s Friday and it’s 11 p.m., and he says we have a deal, we have a deal.”
Mayweather’s camp has been pretty much silent through the entire process, which is the way negotiations were supposed to be. Unfortunately Arum can’t keep his mouth closed for more than a day at a time.
When there is this much money on table it shouldn’t be this complicated. Then again it is boxing, so this should be expected.
So everyone hold off on booking those “hot tub” suites in Vegas for now.
