I don’t know if they have TVs where Plaxico is locked up. If they do, I hope he is watching what is going on with Michael Vick very closely so whenever he does get out, he doesn’t repeat the same mistakes.
To this day, I still think it is ridiculous anyone should get two years in jail for shooting themselves, but since Plax didn’t accept the original plea deal that would have included far less jail time, his idiocy is partly to blame for the situation he is in.
With that being said, I think he should be free. He was denied a work release application back in November and he is now reapplying. ProFootballTalk has the details:
The former Giants receiver has applied for work release for the second time, according to the New York Daily News. Burress was denied in November and his appeal was also shot down.
“There are a number of very prominent anti-gun and anti-violence organizations who have written letters on his behalf and who are supporting his release,” Burress’ lawyer Peter Frankel said.
The district attorney that prosecuted Burress and opposed his last release is now out of office, so there is hope.
Enough time has passed, they need to let Plax go. He is not a threat or danger to the community. There are hardcore criminals doing less time than Plax. They made an example of him, and it is time to move on.
His future in the NFL is iffy at best, but he should be granted his work release.
