Giancarlo Stanton just signed his 13-year $325 million deal with the Miami Marlins and the excitement was vibrating through the city. The Marlins have had a history of being cheap, being quick to jettison a player when his salary starts ballooning so this mega deal was a surprise that rocked what the majority of people thought about this team. Well one signing won’t change that perception but it goes a long way in starting to go in the right direction.
Loria said the reset in 2012 was needed and Stanton was sold on the Marlins building a team around him. So the trust begins with this signing. Let’s see if the pieces continue being built but the skeptics are already criticizing on the high back end of the deal being a way for the Marlins to get out of paying him later on and trading him before tje big money years come up. What say you? Will the Marlins do another fire sale or is this proof Marlins are heading in a new and more competitive direction?
