Hall is upset about the facemask penalty after the Cowboys converted a 3rd and 21 that lead to their winning field goal. Hall who talked real tough during the lead up to the game as usual came up small at the biggest moment.
With that being said he isn’t totally to blame for what happened on that 3rd and 21 play. I will explain why in a minute but first here is what Hall had to say courtesy of Larry Brown Sports.
While nobody questions that DeAngelo Hall touched Dez Bryant’s facemask, it was clear that he touched it accidentally while trying to make a tackle. He quickly moved his hand away from the facemask and at no point tried to bring Bryant down with it watch video of the play here.
It was a bad call by the referee because the language in the rule book states that a player must “grasp” the facemask to be penalized. At no point did Hall grasp Dez’s facemask. Needless to say, Hall was fuming about the call after the game.
“F*cking terrible call. I told the ref he should F*cking lose his job. I told the ref after that call, that might have been the worst call of the game. He’s going to get demerit points for that call. Because that wasn’t no facemask.”
I disagree with LBS in the fact that I don’t think it was a clear cut bad call. From the replays it does appear Hall tugs on the facemask of Dez Bryant and even if it isn’t severe, by the letter of the law that is a penalty.
While Hall should be criticize for having an overall bad game and terrible technique in covering Bryant (it is 3rd and 21 why are you so eager to run up to the line of scrimmage?) another thing should be pointed out.
If you are going to big blitz on 3rd and 21 you better get to the quarterback because your corners are left on an island. The Redskins brought the house, but Romo smartly bought some time and made the completion. That was a complete fail by the Redskins defense.
Hall himself wasn’t too pleased with the big blitz called (probably because he got beat).
“Sooner or later, somebody’s going to figure it out,” Hall said, disgusted. “You don’t have to be a … rocket scientist to figure it out after a while.”
Ugly game all the way around, but credit goes to the Cowboys for making just enough plays to win.
