Phillies Acquire 3B Michael Young From Rangers, Is Josh Hamilton Next?

The Philadelphia Phillies are quietly retooling their roster in hopes of regaining their status as the beast of the National League East.

They’ve taken another big step today acquiring Texas Rangers third baseman Michael Young in trade according to Crossing Broad via Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Young reportedly gets $1.2 million in benefits and getting a full no-trade clause from the Phils, which he already had as part of his original contract.

The Phillies also agreed not to extend Young beyond 2013.  The Rangers will pay the other $10 million of Young’s salary, and they acquired Josh Lindblom and Lisalverto Bonilla from the Phillies.

The question now is will the Phillies use this acquisition of Young to try to sway outfielder Josh Hamilton to come on board, for a little less than he’s been asking.

Stay tuned.
