The iconic field from the movie ‘Field of Dreams’ has been sold to Go the Distance Baseball LLC (a group of investors which includes HOF’er Wade Boggs). The purchase was made for a whopping $3.4 million–actually a bargain from its initial asking price of $5.4 million.

The property was purchased from owners Don and Becky Lansing. The Des Moines Register reports that the investment group’s goal for the field is to turn it into All-Star Ballpark Heaven–a youth sports complex which will bring 12 fields and 60 clubhouses to north eastern Iowa.  Construction is set to begin in the spring.

This deal is a long time coming between the investors and local neighbors of the property who took them to court in opposition of the field’s expansion a year ago.

  • So far, the development group has expressed its affection for farmers and the land by suing surrounding farm owners the minute they expressed opposition to the developers. Not quite the small town cumbaya vibe the developers’ spokesperson tries to give off in the media. Then, too, there’s the fact that developers have sought to get Iowa and local taxpayers to guarantee over 40% of their initial investment amount. Much here needs to be looked into at a far deeper level than has occurred to date.
