While the Super Bowl is the singular focus for the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens, there is a future after the game. And for Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, his future with the team is up in the air as he is scheduled to become a free agent in the off-season.
While Flacco and the Ravens have both made it clear they want to work this out, Flacco will almost certainly be looking to cash in. Leading his team to a Super Bowl after road victories against Peyton Manning and Tom Brady? Flacco certainly believes he is elite. And wants to be compensated as such.
Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome made it clear recently that he wants Flacco in Baltimore long-term.
Per Bob Glauber of Newsday: “Hopefully, as long as I’m the general manager in Baltimore, he’s the quarterback in Baltimore,” Newsome said.
It’ll be interesting to see how negotiations develop after the Super Bowl. The Ravens have made it clear the outcome will not change their offer, but I’m sure Flacco will want more money for delivering a title.
If they can’t come to terms, the Ravens still possess the option of the franchise tag. So more than likely Flacco will be back in Baltimore regardless.
