In two years in Philadelphia Nnamdi Asomugha went from being compared to Darrelle Revis, to the butt of constant jokes and criticism at the end last season.
Asomugha who was due $15 million by the Eagles this season was subsequently released and jettisoned out-of-town. The embattled cornerback just signed a one year deal with the 49ers, and told CSN Bay Area that he’s playing with a “huge chip on his shoulder.”
“I don’t think the stage of my career matters that much. I don’t know that there’s been a season where I didn’t go in feeling like I had something to prove. I’ve had a chip on my shoulder every year that I’ve played. I think, obviously, it’s bigger this year because of the adversity I went through in Philadelphia. But it’s always been a part of my game is coming in and showing what I can do and now being able to be here and start fresh with that, it’s a great opportunity for that.”
The 49ers return all five cornerbacks who were in their rotation last season, so he’s not necessarily guaranteed a starting role in the bay area.
There has been some conversation about moving him to safety, but his lack of wanting to tackle makes that doubtful also.
