If you are like me, I’m sure you sometimes sit and wonder, who is SportsCenter’s most mentioned athlete.
For about a year and half, I’m sure it was Tim Tebow hands down, but with Tebowmania being no more, we have to wonder who gets the most mentions.
Thanks to some numbers crunching and investigations, there may finally be a winner.
According to a recent report published by Deadspin, LeBron James is SportsCenter’s most mentioned athlete. The study, which spanned over a year’s worth of SportsCenter and calculated total mentions per player, demonstrated that ESPN indeed chooses to focus slightly more on some sports and its athletes than others.
Of the 12 top most mentioned athletes in the Deadspin study, eight were NBA players, three were NFL quarterbacks, and one, Tiger Woods, has carried the sport of golf for over a decade.
Not surprisingly, there was not one player from the NHL, or MLB on the list.
1. LeBron James
2. Kobe Bryant
3. Peyton Manning
4. Dwyane Wade
5. Kevin Durant
6. Tiger Woods
7. Tim Tebow
8. Tom Brady
9. Jeremy Lin
10. Derrick Rose
11. Carmelo Anthony
12. Dwight Howard
I’m definitely shocked that Jeremy Lin turned a good month of basketball, into a ninth place finish on the mention’s list.
