According to a report via Fred Davis of CBS Houston, Houston Texans starting quarterback Matt Schaub, was the victim of verbal abuse by irate fans on Tuesday evening. The Houston Police were notified by the NFL, but no arrests were made.
Schaub, who has struggled mightily with the Texans this season, throwing a pick-six in four consecutive games, was believed to have notified NFL Security of the disturbance and they in turn notified the police.
“A fan went to his house and told him off,” said the source, adding that another person “took pictures of his family,” which were allegedly posted on Facebook. Fortunately, neither Schaub nor anyone in his family was hurt.
Too many fans take sports far too seriously. There is no circumstance where abusing athletes should be tolerated, at the end of the day it’s just a game.
No athlete should ever have to fear for his safety or that of his family.
