Bill O’Brien has been a hot name this year to make the leap from the college ranks to the NFL. That talk is picking up steam now with Ian Rapoport reporting that he has agreed to an interview with the Houston Texans:
O’Brien and the Texans agreed to have an interview after Christmas, which means it’s already happened or it will happen in the near future.
This is not your ordinary situation of a college coach being looked at for an NFL job. O’Brien is a former Patriots offensive coordinator and is seen as a QB guru for his work with Tom Brady. He is more attractive to NFL teams now that his Penn State buyout has dropped from $13 million to $6.5 million as well.
The only thing that would keep O’Brien in Happy Valley is a lot of those players stuck around during their sanctions so he may feel a sense of loyalty. There isn’t a lot of loyalty left in sports anymore though, especially when NFL money could be coming your way.
