The Braves have signed their closer to a 4-year $42 million extension.
The Braves have avoided salary arbitration by getting this deal done, and have successfully locked him up through his first year of free agency. The deal also includes a club option for the 2018 season–which would be Kimbrel’s second year of free agency.
The total value of the deal, with the option is $52 million, with $42 guaranteed. This week has shown that the Braves are serious about locking in their young talent, as was the case when they gave Julio Teheran his extension.
At just 25, with a 1.39 ERA and over 50 saves under his belt, this deal speaks for itself.
