Three more Rutgers players have hired attorneys, which means they are more than likely filing lawsuits against former Rutgers University head coach Mike Rice.

Rice was fired by university President Robert Barchi on April 3, after videos appeared showing the former head coach cursing, shouting gay slurs and throwing basketballs at players during team practices.

The Newark Star-Ledger has reported that Jerome Seagears, who is still playing for Rutgers, Robert Lumpkins and Dane Miller join Derrick Randall in taking legal action.

Derrick Randall filed a lawsuit against Rice earlier for a lost of confidence in his game.

Their attorneys — Jamon Hicks of The Cochran Firm in California, who represents Lumpkins and Seagears, and Adam Sattler of Ebanks & Sattler in New York, who represents Miller — did not return calls for comment.

A Rutgers spokesman said the university did not comment on pending or threatened litigation.

The letters from the attorneys, which were filed in April, May and June of last year, were only recently released by the university after The Star-Ledger filed a request under the Open Public Records Act for their disclosure, in the wake of another lawsuit in December by another former player who claimed he was abused by Rice.

That case, by one-time Rutgers forward Derrick Randall, accused Rice of assault and battery, charging the university and its athletic staff of negligence, emotional distress and discrimination.

There have been no comments by Rice and the university.

The case against Rice is still pending in federal court in Newark.
