There have been questions about Jadeveon Clowney’s effort and “motor” for a long time. His former Head Coach Steve Spurrier didn’t do much to help the questions with some of his comments either. Now Clowney is speaking on the questions and has this to say:
“When they say that, I take that as spit in the face, really,” Clowney told NFL Network. “I wouldn’t question that about me personally. I love the game and don’t think I take plays off. And I wouldn’t question how much I love it because I wouldn’t be playing this game if I didn’t love it.
“I had the opportunity to go to school and play football, and I did. I had the opportunity to sit out last year like everybody was talking about, but I didn’t. I wanted to play football.”
If Clowney can use all these as fuel to help his game and turn this all into a positive, that would be great. This whole thing is just another example of all the hype surrounding him actually hurting him. The only way he will ever get people to stop saying he talks plays off is to go out and prove it on the field. Soon enough he will have that chance.
