Could the DeSean Jackson era be coming to an end in Philadelphia?
Thee re-signing of wide receivers Riley Cooper and Jeremy Maclin has some in the know around the organization speculating on the future of DeSean Jackson.
Jimmy Kempski of Philly.com got deep into the topic Saturday morning, and revealed that the Eagles had the second highest amount of cap space in the league tied up into wide receivers.
That much money tied up into three wide receivers would lead you to believe that there has to be an odd man out, especially in an offense where having a dominant No. 1 wide receiver isn’t necessarily the premium.
Of course the logic sounds crazy.
Jackson is coming off a Pro Bowl season in which he had 82 receptions for 1332 yards, 16.2 yards per reception, and 9 touchdowns.
Jackson’s numbers aren’t the problem according to the reports.
It’s the other persona, Jaccpot, that has Eagles brass prepared to part ways. According to Kempski and Howard Eskins, Jackson is simply drama.
And it may be more drama than Chip Kelly has interest in dealing with.
Jackson of course wants a new deal, and the Eagles could use the contract as a reason to move on.
