It’s punishment time for the players who were involved in the Easter brawl between the Brewers and Pirates.
For the Brewers, Carlos Gomez will be suspended 3 games and Martin Maldonado received 5 games. For the Pirates, Travis Snider was slapped with 2 games and Russell Martin gets 1 game suspension. Oh, and they all received a fine.
Maldonado received the harshest punishment because he punched Snider in the face, so he received an additional $2,500 fine. If your’re wondering why Gerrit Cole hasn’t been reprimanded for basically inciting the whole thing by screaming at Gomez for admiring the failed homer, well he gets nothing, because he ran his mouth and not his fists–baseball logic. MLB cited the main reasons for the suspensions being as such:”[players were] suspended for their aggressive actions.”
Gomez is in the process of appealing his suspension, and will take part in Tuesday’s game against the Padres. Maldonado will serve out his suspension without protest (pretty hard to refute the video of him slugging Snider, so smart move). Snider and Martin are also appealing their suspension.
