There are varying witness accounts at what happened at LAX, so let’s start with what a witness had to say to the Mercury News.
Linebacker Aldon Smith was detained by police Sunday at Los Angeles International Airport, according to an eyewitness.
Smith, 24, was at Gate 6 of Terminal 1 when confronted by several police, who then led Smith away from the Southwest gate, according to eyewitness John Egan of Austin.
“I heard him say, ‘I did nothing wrong,’ ” Egans said. “The whole thing ratcheted up from there. The cops were trying to calm him down. He wasn’t out of control; just agitated.”
Smith has had several run ins with the law and was in rehab during the 49ers season, so if the TMZ version of events are correct he has a lot of explaining to do.
San Francisco 49ers superstar Aldon Smith was just arrested at LAX after allegedly yelling “bomb” in the airport terminal … TMZ Sports has learned.
Witnesses at the airport say Smith was very loud when cops arrived to the scene.
We’re told the drama started at the gate, where Smith was trying to board a plane. We’re told he got into an argument with one of the people working at the gate.
Here is a list of problems Smith has had over the years.
January 2012 arrested for DUI, a charge that was reduced to reckless driving. In June 2012 he was stabbed at a house party and then charged with three felony counts of possessing illegal assault rifles when cops searched his home. In 2013 was arrested for DUI a couple of days before a game and then went to rehab.
Police report states Smith did say he had a bomb.
“At approximately 1400 hrs, a 25-year-old male resident of San Jose, California, was going through Terminal 1 screening and was randomly selected for a secondary screening. The suspect then became belligerent and uncooperative with the process and with the TSA agent, making a comment indicating that he was in possession of a bomb before proceeding towards the gate area. Los Angeles Airport Police made contact with him at the gate and he was positively identified as the person in question. Once again the male subject became uncooperative and he was detained and taken into custody by Airport Police and is currently being transported to LAPD for booking.”
There is video of Aldon Smith speaking to the police. The officer says “You’re Bugging Bro”, Smith says he didn’t do anything wrong.
