It must be great to be RGIII right now. The Washington Redskins got rid of strict coach Mike Shanahan, brought in a dynamic weapon in DeSean Jackson, and now he’ll drive the pace car at Sunday’s Nascar race at Richmond International Speedway. That’s what I’d call a good offseason.
Here’s some details courtesy of SportingNews:
RGIII — Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III — will be at Richmond International Raceway for the race Saturday night. He won’t be grand marshal, but he will be the honorary pace-car driver. After Earnhardt’s tweet, track president Dennis Bickmeier tweeted that Griffin could drive the pace car. Later, Griffin responded: “I’m game brother.” The track announced Wednesday that Griffin will drive the pace car prior to the start of the Toyota 400 Owners on Saturday. Griffin, who will undergo a little bit of training Saturday afternoon, also will have time to hang out with Earnhardt — a Redskins fan as a kid since that was the team often on television in the Carolinas when he was a kid — as well as former Redskins coach and NASCAR team owner Joe Gibbs.
I’m sure Skins’ fans would like to see RGIII spending his time on the practice field with his teammates but anytime he spends having fun, not rehabbing like last offseason, is time well spent for the Redskins’ franchise QB.
