On the surface Invicta FC signing a distribution deal with UFC Fight Pass doesn’t seem like huge news but it is for the fighters of the all-female MMA promotion.
Firstly, this means we will see Featherweight champion Cris Cyborg on something affiliated with the UFC. Which means the super fight between her and Ronda is just that much closer because Dana White has the ability to follow her next few matches given the accessibility of Fight Pass.
The other advantage is the growth of the Invitca-UFC partnership. Invicta FC’s fighters were used for season 20 of ‘TUF’ and if the UFC finally gives MMA fans their way and adds a 145 lb division then Cyborg will be a top the list of fighters to break into the official UFC roster.
Seems farfetched? Well 3 years ago White was quoted saying that women will never fight in the UFC and now arguably his biggest star is female. Adding a 145 lb weight class will instantly draw names like Cyborg and Holy Holm. Adding a promotion like Invicta FC to it’s umbrella of smaller projects gives the UFC the opportunity to see how much star power is attached to that weight class and how much they stand to gain by expanding.
