Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy is not a man who backpedals, instead he holds strong to his conviction and isn’t afraid to repeat it.
Last month McCoy raised eyebrows when he went on ESPN’s First Take and proclaimed to be the best running back in the NFL, and on Tuesday McCoy echoed those same beliefs, during the Eagles OTA practice.
“Yes, yes, yes,” McCoy said, via CSNPhilly.com. “Especially the last three years. Check the numbers.”
McCoy was asked about a recent interview Adrian Peterson did with Fox Sports Radio where he admitted he laughed off McCoy’s premature claims.
“I definitely started laughing,” Peterson said. “It was funny because when he was asked the question, you know, he kind of hesitated. If you watched it, you know he didn’t believe it when he said it. So I’ve got to tell the youngsters: ‘Next time, say it with your chest, man. Say it like you mean it.'”
McCoy didn’t take Peterson’s comments lightly.
“I don’t know if he’s joking or what,” McCoy said. “I don’t know how to take that. I play the game and it speaks for itself. I don’t know what that meant. I don’t understand what he was getting at.”
Since 2011 through 2013, Peterson has racked up a total of 4,333 yards rushing, 527 receiving yards, and 37 touchdowns. McCoy however, has compiled a total of 3,756 yards rushing, 1,227 receiving yards, and 36 touchdowns.
“If you look on tape, as a back, I do everything,” McCoy said Monday. “Running, catching, blocking, third-down guy. There’s nothing that you can ask me to do that I won’t want to do or that I can’t do. “So in that aspect, in the last three years you can’t find a back that’s more productive.”
Regardless of which running back you prefer you can’t deny McCoy is a confident man and versatile. Although some people may laugh at his claims, McCoy makes valid points. It basically comes down to what type of running back you would want on your roster.
