Confused as to why arguably the best player in Major League Baseball isn’t in the Home Run Derby despite blasting 22 homers this year? The answer is simple: Blame Mike Scioscia.
For those who were quick to lay the blame all in Trout’s court, hear the man out. Trout informed the masses on his seemingly inexplicable absence, in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. According to the 22 year old slugger, his skipper Mike Scioscia is concerned about him messing up his swing, and worse, getting injured.
But as for next year, Trout wants to take his fate into his own hands:
“If I get another chance, and if I said I wanted to do it,…Scioscia would be against it, but he would support it.
“I don’t think it will mess up my swing,”
Baseball is chock full of overly cautious managers, limiting players in the goofiest ways possible. If the guy wants in, give the fans what they want. Really, when you think about it, the Home Run Derby is just a glorified batting practice stint. Calm it down
