This could turn into a nightmare for the Kansas City Chiefs who were trying to capitalize off their stunning playoff berth in Andy Reid’s first season as head coach. KCTV5 is reporting that all world running back Jamaal Charles is expected to holdout in a contract dispute.
Charles is not expected to show up when training camp opens up for the veterans on Thursday. Charles still has two more years left on his contract and is due $3.9 million this year. He’s definitely worth more than the salary he’s due, but his position also no longer places a premium on paying top dollar as well.
Charles’ leverage in negotiations could stem from the fact that he’s a valuable part of the passing game, and takes a ton of pressure off Alex Smith who also is looking for a new deal. Charles led the Chiefs with 259 carries for 1,287 yards rushing, along with 70 catches for 693 yards.
