Last night, WWE SummerSlam eminated from Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, and what a night it was for the WWE. There were plenty of great matches, as well as multiple new Champions crowned. Let’s take a look at the results and recap some of the matches from last night.
John Cena vs Brock Lesnar (Winner and NEW WWE World Heavyweight Champion: Brock Lesnar)
In what was probably the most hyped main event since Rock-Cena, WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena took on Brock Lesnar in the SummerSlam main event. While the build up to the match was so-so until the past week, there was a definite big fight feel heading into this one.
Cena is all business for this one as Lesnar stares him down from across the ring. Cena attacks but a quick Lesnar reversal leads us to an F-5 only thirty seconds into the bout, but Cena somehow kicks out for a near-fall.
Lesnar begins to stalk Cena, yelling at the prone Champ and screaming “I’m gonna kill you!” at Cena as the crowd breaks into dueling “Let’s Go Cena!”/”Cena Sucks!” chants. Now Lesnar is picking Cena apart, starting with a massive German Suplex that causes Cena to land directly on his head. Another German Suplex and this thing has turned ugly very quickly for Cena.
Cena attempts to battle back and corners Lesnar before two massive knees to the ribs put the Conquerer back in control. Again. This is actually kind of uncomfortable. It’s as if Lesnar is punishing Cena for daring to kick out of an F5 earlier on.
Multiple German Suplexes from Lesnar to Cena, and Brock is literally throwing the Champ around like a rag doll in the ring. I’ll give Cena credit, I have no idea how someone can take the kind of beating he is taking and continue, scripted or not.
Cena finally makes a push, hitting a few massive running elbows on Lesnar, who attempts a reversal into an F-5 but CENA COUNTER FOR THE ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT! 1-2… LESNAR KICKS OUT!
Cena finally has Lesnar off his feet and for the first time in the match can take a breather. Or not so much, as Lesnar pops up ala the Undertaker and starts laughing at Cena for thinking that was enough. Unbelievable.
Cena attempts to rush Lesnar who counters and absolutely pounds the crap out of the Champ. Lesnar unloads for a good thirty seconds on Cena before the ref again checks on the Champ to see if he’s had enough. Lesnar wants Cena to quit here, continuously yelling at the ref to ask Cena if he gives up.
Four more German Suplexes in succession to Cena, and Lesnar is literally screaming “DIE!” at a prone Cena, who refuses to quit.
Out of nowhere Cena locks in the STF and Lesnar looks vulnerable finally as he attempts to fight towards the ropes and not tap out. Forget that human thing, Lesnar with a reversal and he pounds the Champ before picking Cena up and hitting a massive F-5.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, BROCK LESNAR IS YOUR NEW WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION!
That was as one-sided and brutal of a championship match as I have ever seen. As Michael Cole put it perfectly, it wasn’t even close. If WWE’s plan was to make Lesnar look like the most unstoppable monster in the history of the company, they definitely succeeded by having him crush Cena for the entire match.
Let the Conquerer’s Reign begin.
