The New York Giants will have to finish this season out without middle linebacker Jon Beason. Beason needs season-ending surgery to repair his injured right foot.
Beason missed all of training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list and all five preseason games, but was able to return for the start of the regular season. Beason played in two games and never flashed the form he displayed last season after arriving in a trade with the Panthers.
Beason sat out the next three games – all won by the Giants – and returned for the past two games, both losses. He re-aggravated the injury two weeks ago in a 27-0 loss to the Eagles in Philadelphia and could not finish the game against the Cowboys.
Last week, Beason revealed he’s been playing without “a crucial ligament’’ in his right big toe and hinted it was likely he would have to be shut down for the remainder of the season. He was able to avoid surgery in the spring. Not this time around.
