I can only imagine what Spanish Fork High School (Utah) quarterback is feeling at moment as he gave the game to Maple Mountain High school (Utah) in 3.2 seconds.
Spanish Fork led Maple Mountain 14-11 with 3.2 seconds left to play, as time expired Spanish Fork quarterback forgot the basic rules of football.
On the play Spanish Fork QB snaps the ball and run around as if he is running the clock out in basketball. The only problem is, for the play to be over the ball must be whistled dead by the referee. In the video the play is still alive as Maple Mountain defenders knock the ball out of the QB hands to the end the game on a winning touchdown.
Spanish Fork coach took to social media to defend his quarterback:
“To anyone who sees this: I’m on the coaching staff at Spanish fork. [He] is an incredible player. He led this team in rushing yards and put the team on his back all night. [He] made all the right plays and gave us the win and we are so darn proud of him for last night and this entire season! This play is on us as coaches. We dropped the ball, not [him]. Most of you won’t see this, but take it easy on the kid, be respectful and imagine how you would want someone to treat your friend, brother, son, player after a defeat like this.”
I’m sure this is a loss that will stick with the young man for the rest of life.
