Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel said that Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis calling him a midget was “absolutely funny,” in a statement to USA Today.
Lewis was asked about preparing for Manziel, who will start for Cleveland against the Bengals this weekend, during a radio interview on Monday.
“You’ll get a little bit more movement if Manziel’s the quarterback, the thing that they did against Buffalo,” Lewis said. “But other than that, no, that doesn’t impact you at all. You gotta go defend the offense. You don’t defend the player. Particularly a midget.”
Lewis later apolpogize and Manziel said it was no big deal.
“I don’t think they’d say that about Drew Brees. It didn’t really get to me,” Manziel said, according to USA Today. “It’s absolutely funny. I’m not going to sprout five inches over the course of the week. My height is my height. And I need to overcome it with other pieces of my game.”
