With the start of free agency just days away, March 10th, many teams and big name players are at a crossroad trying to work out contracts. Jermey Maclin and the Eagles aren’t any different. Maclin wants into play for the Eagles and the Eagles want to keep him, they just need to agree on the financial part of their mutual interest.
“I’ve always said I want to be here in Philadelphia, but I’ve also always said I understand it’s a business. Both sides have made it known that we both want each other back, so the rest of it is in God’s hands. If it’s supposed to happen, it’ll happen. I want to be here.”
Maclin is coming off a 1-year, $5.5 million contract he signed while recovering from a torn ACL and has moved into the No. 1 receiver spot after the departure of DeSean Jackson. The Eagles could use the franchise tag on Maclin, this would ensure them that Maclin plays for the Eagles next year as well as a placeholder to give them time to work out a deal.
There are speculations that the Kansas City Chiefs have a strong interest in Maclin, reuniting him with his old coach Andy Reid.
“You don’t really know what’s out there until free agency starts, I know on paper what teams look like they need receivers. I also understand, this is the place I want to be. We’ll see what happens.”
With the deadline for teams to apply the franchise tag set for March 2nd, we will know more of Maclin’s future very soon.
