The battle to pay college athletes continues to be fought but for the time being NCAA has allowed schools to decided a fair amount to pay athletes in a stipend for the school year. There will be no flat stipend across all the schools and conferences have yet to decide how to set a figure. However Penn State has decided to set the amount at $4788.
The thought behind the $4788 figure is based on Penn State estimated cost of attendance figures collected. The miscellaneous expenses that occur during the school year. With setting this stipend its is expected to help Penn State bounce back in recruiting. Other Big Ten schools will likely match this figure, the question becomes will the NCAA continue to allow schools and conferences to police themselves with creating a figure or will they eventually have to get involved and make a set figure.
