The WBC is going all out for their special Mayweather vs Pacquiao title belt.
The BoxingScene.com is reporting that the belt is being made in two separate Mexican workshops and will be valued over $1 million dollars when it is all said and done.
Two Mexican workshops are involved in production of the exquisite World Boxing Council Emerald belt that will be awarded to the winner of the “Fight of the Century” between eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao and undefeated, pound for pound NO.1 Floyd Mayweather Jr at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 2.
The WBC said the Emerald belt proudly manufactured in Mexico has been assigned to two workshops that are in charge of creating the WBC belt from Ferrari leather, containing 3,000 emeralds and one kilo of gold.
WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman considers what has been described as “an incredible belt, priceless and an authentic work of art. A unique piece for a unique event.”
The Emerald belt which reportedly costs $1 million was chosen by a majority of the fans in a poll conducted by the WBC by a 53 to 47 percent margin over the Onyx version of the belt.
Am I the only one that feels these custom belts are excessive?
We can all blame Pacquiao for this excessive trend.
The first specially crafted Diamond Belt exclusively for elite fighters was won by Pacquiao when he scored a 12th round TKO over Miguel Cotto in November 14, 2009.
The WBC Diamond belt was manufactured using the same design as the traditional belt but the materials imclude 18K golsd fusion, 598 diamonds, 196 emeralds and 150 Swarovsky semi precious stones.
I bet the winner of the fight doesn’t look twice at this belt after May 2nd.
