The Hawks were not going to let the Wizards steal another game on their home court. The Hawks won Game 2 106-90, against a Wizards team that was without their leader, John Wall.
DeMarre Carroll led the Hawks in scoring for yet another game with 22 points (9-16) and had 6 rebounds. Paul Millsap and Al Horford both had 18 points, and helped the Hawks starters put points on the board.
The biggest story of the night however was the Hawks bench. After playing poorly in the playoffs thus far, the Hawks bench scored 27 points between just three players. Pero Antic had 8 points and 3 rebounds and played 19 minutes. Kent Bazemore had 10 points and was a perfect 3-3 in shooting and even added a blocked shot. Dennis Schroder played 15 minutes and added 9 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
Even Coach Budenholzer knew that his bench stepped up big tonight.
“Our bench really helped us tonight. Our bench is ready when they’re needed,” Coach Budenholzer.
The other two Hawks starter, Jeff Teague and Kyle Korver did not add much to the Hawks offense but helped out with rebounds and assists. Teague shot a horrible 3-12 for 9 points and Korver shot 4-11 from 3, getting 12 points.
Teague had 7 rebounds, 5 defensive and 8 assists as he spread the ball around. Korver had 6 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.
As for the Wizards, they looked alright without Wall, but the Hawks bench out battled their own. Bradley Beal scored 20 points and shot 8-22, while Ramon Sessions started for Wall and shot 8-14 for 21 points and had 4 assists.
The Hawks will travel to Washington D.C. to play Game 3 on Saturday May 9th at 5pm.
