Gus Malzahn knows a thing or two about producing quarterbacks, and it is showing in his ability to recruit the position nationally.
The Auburn recruiting juggernaut was at work again today, as they landed a big time commitment from stud quarterback recruit Woody Barrett.
AL.com has the skinny on the newest Tiger commit:
Auburn picked up a big-time prospect Wednesday, as dual-threat quarterback Ervin “Woody” Barrett announced his commitment to the Tigers during a ceremony at his school.
The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder at West Orange in Orlando, Fla., picked Auburn over fellow finalist Alabama. He is ranked as a four-star prospect and the nation’s No. 6 dual-threat quarterback in the 247Sports Composite.
“He’s got a really big body and great frame,” Barrett’s coach, Bob Head, told AL.com. “He doesn’t have any fat on him. He reminds me of aSteve McNair or Vince Young type-body, he looks like a linebacker. He’s really naturally strong and runs the ball like a running back. We’re working on his accuracy, but he’s really tough and plays with a reckless abandon and it brings the best out of his natural instincts. He’s very dynamic.”
To keep it short and simple, Barrett is one of the most impressive quarterback prospects I’ve seen on film this year. If you want to see what kind of player he is in a nutshell, check out the play on his highlight tape when he fumbles the snap in his own end zone and still takes it to the house.
He’s a good one.
