Darren Sharper pleaded guilty to the last of his charges in a New Orleans courtroom as part of his global plea deal that will make him a free man by 2024.
Sharper has admitted to raping multiple women in four different states. Here are the details via The Advocate.
Sharper pleaded guilty to two charges of forcible rape and one of simple rape in front of Orleans Parish Criminal District Court Judge Karen Herman. That followed his pleading guilty or no contest in March to raping a total of six other women in Los Angeles; Las Vegas; and Tempe, Arizona.
The plea in Herman’s courtroom marked the last of five in a “global” deal resolving the criminal charges against Sharper, 39, without requiring trials in four separate states. Herman set a later date in her courtroom to sign off on the agreed-upon sentence in exchange for his pleas in the various jurisdictions. Under the deal, he will serve at least nine more years in federal custody before being released to California parole officials and, after that, lifetime probation administered by the state of Arizona.
When Sharper is released, he will be under a very strict probation. Any slip up could result in him going back to jail for 14 more years.
