With Dylann Storm Roof’s arrest and confession to gunning down 9 people at a Charleston, South Carolina Black Church, details about his dark past are coming to light.
Sadly, it always seems to be the same script–the ‘loner’ tendencies, the increasingly violent thoughts and as we saw on Roof’s Facebook page, he took to even wearing racist apparel, including pro Apartheid South Africa and Rhodesia flags. The signs were all there, then his uncle had the bright idea to arm him with a gun as a birthday gift.
An interview with Scott Roof, who says Dylann is his cousin provides additional background information to Roof’s decision to kill Black people.
Scott Roof, who identified himself as Dylann Roof’s cousin, told me over the telephone that “Dylann was normal until he started listening to that white power music stuff.” He also claimed that “he kind of went over the edge when a girl he liked starting dating a black guy two years back.”
This scenario recalls a manifesto written by Elliot Rodger, who on May 23, 2014 gunned down six people in Isla Vista, California: “How could an inferior, ugly black boy be able to get a white girl and not me?”
“Dylann liked her,” Scott Roof said. “The black guy got her. He changed. I don’t know if we would be here if not …” Roof then abruptly hung up the phone.
Dylann is deranged so black guy stealing his imaginary girlfriend most likely wouldn’t have changed the tragic outcome. This is a prime example of a hateful person with crazy delusions being armed with a weapon to kill and released into the world and he killed those who embraced him and showed him love. Horrifying.
