Anthony Edwards On Why He Missed Wolves-Mavericks Opening Tip-off

In today’s episode of “Things You Probably Shouldn’t Admit Out Loud,” Anthony Edwards decided honesty was the best policy. And wow, he really went there.

The Minnesota Timberwolves guard missed the opening tip-off against the Dallas Mavericks. Fans were confused, commentators were puzzled, Twitter detectives were already building conspiracy theories. Injury? Late arrival? Locker room drama? No, none of that!

According to Edwards himself, he was taking a sh*t. Yes, that’s it, that’s the reason.

Now, in a world where athletes usually give polished, media-trained responses like “lower body tightness” or “just handling some pre-game adjustments,” Edwards came in with the energy of a play who simply does not care about PR at all.

It was veteran Mike Conley who got the starting nod in Edwards’ place.

Fortunately, it wasn’t an extended absence. Edwards quickly showed up and checked into the game after one minute and one second of game time had elapsed. Also fortunate is that there’s a simple explanation for Edwards’ delayed arrival…and it’s exactly what you might assume.

“Nature calls, I guess,” head coach Chris Finch told The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski in his postgame press conference.

Edwards confirmed that report. “I was taking a s***,” he said.

In the end, Edwards still showed up, played his game, and reminded everyone why he’s one of the most entertaining personalities in the league. Not just for his skills, but for moments like this.

In a league full of media-trained answers, Anthony Edwards just gave us the most human excuse ever. And really, can you blame him? Sometimes, you just got to say it as it is!
