Jameis Winston has been killing it so far in Tampa Bay — developing the rep as a gym rat, carrying his playbook around and ingratiating himself into the community.
Winston’s one singular issue is an easy one to fix, and it involves his belly. The No. 1 overall pick admits that he looks good, but he could benefit from losing a few pounds, or as he referred to it, ” get back skinny.”
“Trying to lose some weight, try to get back skinny,” Winston said, via Kevin Patra of NFL.com. “Right now I’m 238 [pounds], I’m trying to be my redshirt freshman year [weight], about 230. I mean, learn that playbook too, man, you can never go wrong with that.”
Winston’s weight became a topic during the predraft circuit, but it didn’t stop Winston from being select first overall.
Jameis wants to lose weight for performance reasons, but doesn’t feel he has anything to prove.
“I have nothing to prove,” Winston said. “I believe that people make mistakes, but I also believe that you bounce back from those and I’m just moving forward.”
Jameis will be the player to watch from day one, and the extra weight loss will definitely help him hook up with Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans.
