Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk is reporting that Russell Wilson could leave the Seahawks next season, and the “possibility is real.”
According to Florio, the Seahawks were given three options by the quarterback — and they include —
“signing Wilson to a long-term contract that pays the quarterback what he desires, apply the non-exclusive franchise tag or apply the exclusive franchise tag.”
It really sounds like Seattle is content to get as many wins as possible out of Wilson, before eventually parting ways with him. If the Seahawks choose to use the exclusive franchise tag, Wilson will earn $98 million over three-years. It’s not a bad haul for the young star, but it’s definitely not as long a deal that he would prefer.
The non-exclusive franchise tag would allow Wilson to get paid as well — with another franchise being able to sign Wilson to an offer sheet, that could net Seattle two first round picks.
