Major League Baseball has officially announced the field for this year’s Home Run Derby and despite both Giancarlo Stanton and Bryce Harper not participating this year, the field still has some fire power.
Here is how the field plays out per ESPN.com:
In this year’s new format, two-time champion Prince Fielder of Texas faces Cincinnati’s Todd Frazier, and Toronto’s Josh Donaldson takes on Chicago’s Anthony Rizzo in the other bracket of the annual contest, to be held at Great American Ball Park on Monday.
The Frazier-Fielder winner faces Donaldson or Rizzo, and the Bryant-Pujols winner goes against Pederson or Machado.
Believe me when I tell you nobody was more disappointed than me when Harper and Stanton had to opt out of the derby this year, but the competition is still pretty salty.
You got the young represented by guys like Kris Bryant and Joc Pederson, meanwhile you got Derby veterans in guys like Prince Fielder, Albert Pujols, and Todd Frazier.
Everyone in this field has the ability to put on a show, and I can’t wait for the All-Star break to kick off so we can see who comes out on top.
Who are you picking to win the derby this year?
