Being black in America is extremely exhausting as once famously said on twitter. You don’t know what to expect when you encounter someone of influence, they have the power to ruin your life with a blink of an eye and as of late, its been happening way too frequently under the hands of the one force supposed to protect you, the police.
In another chapter of “Being black in America”, John Felton was on his way to his mother’s house when he suddenly noticed a cop tailing him. Due to the rise of cop murders, Felton took out his camera phone and began to record his interaction with a Dayton police officer. What the officer admitted during the recording might not shock you, which is sad.
“My brother had his seat belt on and everything and I was like, ‘This cop is following me, I don’t know why he’s following me,” Felton said in an interview with ABC on Thursday.
In the cell phone recording, the police officer can be heard telling Felton that he pulled him over for failing to flip on his turn signal 100 feet before the turn. To be clear: Felton did signal for the turn, just not early enough. He thought there might be more to it than that, so Felton continued to press the cop on why he was stopped.
“You made direct eye contact with me and held onto it when I was passing you,” the officer says. Felton claims he didn’t even see the police officer.
“I’m not going to argue with you, sir,” the cop responds. “I’ll just scan your license and give you a citation for the violation and we can take it to court.”
Its going to be interesting to see hear the judges reaction when he hears the reasoning behind him being pulled over. For all my legal friends, can Felton sue with the recording he has? This particular cop definitely needs to be reprimanded for pulling someone over for “staring”, if that’s the case I should be UNDER the jail. But in all seriousness, for ANYONE out there, please get home safely.
