After coming off his year long suspension, many believed that Alex Rodriguez would be a shell of himself this season. If hindsight was 20-20, folks would’ve said the 3-time MVP would overcome all adversity and help put the Yankees in position to compete for a World Series title.
Through 98 games, A-Rod is batting .278 to go along with 24 HR’s and 62 RBI’s.
New York is currently in the middle of a series against the rival Boston Red Sox. Veteran designated hitter David Ortiz was asked about A-Rod’s surprising year and as you could imagine, he had some interesting remarks.
“It is what it is. The guy is playing the right way now — as far as we know. He’s having a good season and doing the right thing. I guess that deserves credit.”
Although A-Rod is putting up impressive numbers, I think we can all comfortably say he’s not dumb enough to get back on the juice and Ortiz knows that.
“He’s having a good season,” Ortiz said. “Me, personally, I thought having a year off and getting older was something that would affect you, but he looks good to me.”
Ortiz is just frustrated because his Red Sox are in last place in the AL East.
“I really thought we were gonna do better,” Ortiz said. “Hopefully something happens this year.”
The two teams will wrap up their three-game set tonight at 7:05 eastern time.
