It is not a secret that Mack Brown was the mayor of Austin during his time at Texas and was generally loved by everyone up until the program started to decline under his watch.
Mack didn’t exactly get to go out on his terms, but that doesn’t change all of the great things that he did for the University of Texas from the time he got there in 1998.
With all that said, it was only natural that his name has already surfaced as the replacement for recently fired Texas AD Steve Patterson.
Brown had this to say about the firing and the notion about taking the recently vacated postion.
Mack Brown: “I hate this for Steve, he was good to me. I’m really happy at ESPN/ABC. I have had no discussions w/anyone about the AD job"

One thing that stands out to me is the fact that Mack said he hasn’t had discussions with anyone from Texas about the job, but he didn’t deny that he had interest in it.
Several former Longhorn players took to Twitter advocating for Brown to get the job once the news of Patterson’s demise trickled out.

I don’t think Brown will get the gig personally, but it won’t be because of lack of support. The search for the new Texas AD will definitely be interesting to watch after the way the search for the new football coach went.
