A couple of days ago Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch’s mom stirred the proverbial pot when she publicly called out Seattle offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell on her Facebook page, calling Bevell the “worst play caller ever” while at the same time wishing that he would be fired. Now you might think that a star player’s mother pleading for a coach to be dismissed might not sit well with an organization, but apparently Bevell and head coach Pete Carroll are taking the high road on this one.
Said Carroll (via the Seattle Times)…
“It’s “a mom looking after her kid. Ain’t nothing wrong with that.”
“There’s a lot of passion with our following and the 12s and with the family members. Think where media is today. It’s kind of your guys’ world. But anyway. Just something that I’m sure she has strong feelings and I don’t blame her for having strong feels. She’s a mom.”
And Bevell’s take (via ESPN)…
“I’m glad we have passionate fans,” Bevell said.
“It comes with the territory. I played quarterback, and that guy’s going to get more credit than he deserves, and people are going to be on him when you don’t win. So same with what I’m doing. I’m totally confident in what I’m doing. I’m totally confident that I’m trying to get our team in the best position to win. And I’m glad that she’s passionate about it.”
Moms are always going to look out for the children, whether they’re nine or 29, but calling for a man’s livelihood because you don’t like his play calling is a bit much. Momma Lynch needs to take things down a notch, seeing that the Seahawks did win a Super Bowl two years ago, and nearly captured a second one last year, if not for that one questionable call.
