Many Yankee fans ripped Robinson Cano for leaving New York and essentially “taking the money” for Seattle. It seems that Cano is regretting that decision.
Big contracts often involve a huge change. Robinson Cano went from popular second baseman for the New York Yankees to just a second baseman for the Seattle Mariners. He could essentially be a big fish in a small pond but not everything is what it seems to be. His hefty contract is something that he is probably second guessing now.
Just a few days ago, ex-Mariners coach Andy Van Slyke ripped Cano apart. However, another former coach, Rich Donnelly, spoke out against Van Slyke’s comments and as you’ll read, there’s more to this story.
So maybe Van Slyke is just so bitter about being fired that he needed someone to blame. But even if Cano has had the best intentions as a Mariner, one long-time friend who spoke to him recently says the second baseman is not happy in Seattle, especially with a new regime in charge there now, and that he’d love to somehow find his way back to New York.
To find his way back to the Big Apple will be a tough journey considering his contract. However, if we play devil’s advocate, Cano wants to come back to New York but he wasn’t specific on which team. Maybe the Mets will pick him up somehow? We’ll have to wait and see on this.
