It’s been a long time since the Knicks were relevant but the wait may be worth it if reports of Westbrook’s interest in signing with the team in 2017 are true.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski the Knicks have a realistic shot of landing Russell Westbrook if they can put together a legit coaching staff and add a few key free agents.
The Knicks have a real chance to sell Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook in 2017—New York and (forward Kristaps) Porzingis have his attention, yes—and (team president Phil) Jackson ought to start constructing an elite coaching staff to begin that process with Westbrook and with free agents beyond him.
The Knicks will first have to focus on keeping Phil Jackson at the helm; reports have surfaced that he’s interested in a return to LA. If they can keep Phil and land a coach like Luke Walton in the offseason free agents will have to give them a strong look in the coming years.
