A New Jersey prison teacher, Chong-Hwa Chang, is being charged with a single count of second-degree sexual assault on a convicted murder, Rashid Walker, who is serving a 60-year sentence.
The NJDOC Special Investigations Division launched an investigation into the relationship between the two and uncovered a treasure chest worth of information after obtaining a search warrant to Chang’s home. They found a journal that laid everything from their sexy time to her two pregnancies- one ending in abortion and the other in a miscarriage.
Though the sexual relationship was consensual, Chang’s supervisory role is what classifies this as sexual assault; funny enough, Walker was not one of her students but was obviously still one of the prisoners so it doesn’t matter.
It would be really easy to sit here and cast judgment on Chang, but let’s try to understand her for a second. Don’t even tell me you haven’t made some of the worst decisions in your life under the influence of lust or love. We are all guilty of doing some ridiculous things in the name of sex, so for me to say she made a dumb decision would be too easy. Sure she made a questionable decision, but maybe it was worth it. The investigation did reveal that she had developed a relationship with Walker’s family and even attending a family wedding.
So who are we to say this love is wrong? It might just be unrealistic unless she digs him out like El Chapo.
