The can’t stop, won’t stop man is at it again, this time he is attempting to conquer the world of education. According to the Associated Press, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is opening a new charter school in Harlem, the uptown NYC neighborhood where he was born.
A fixture on the hip hop top earners list, music mogul Combs has been working diligently on this venture for five years, researching the best education models. He has met with community leaders and education experts to establish the program and has identified Dr. Steve Perry’s Capital Prep Program as the model.
Capital Preparatory Harlem Charter School will open this fall and is a free, public school for grades 6-12. According to its website it will provide a “year-round, college preparatory education” and make college courses available to students once in high school. For its first year, 160 students will be enrolled in 6th and 7th grades.
Combs says creating the school is “a dream come true.”
Imagine being a kid at that school? What kind of uniforms will they have? Shiny suits for the boys? Do you have to be able to rap ‘Juicy’ on command, for fear of getting sent to detention?
In all seriousness, kudos to Diddy and his team of educators for investing in the lives of NYC’s children.
