What had been rumored for quite some time has finally happened. Direct from the Timberwolves:
The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced the team has waived guard Kevin Martin. The roster currently stands at 13 players.
Martin joined the Wolves in 2013 and is in his 12th NBA season. He played in 39 games for the Wolves this year, averaging 10.6 points and 2.1 rebounds. Martin has career averages of 17.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 698 games.
Like his former teammate Andre Miller, he could join the San Antonio Spurs. Even on a bad Minnesota team, Martin has shown his incredible shooting touch. The Spurs are 50-9, but still have areas they could improve- like bench scoring.
More from CBS Sports for more potential suitors:
Besides the Spurs, the Mavericks, Rockets and Hawks are reportedly interested in signing Martin.
Just for storyline sake, I hope he signs with the Spurs. We need some strong rivals to these Warriors that are making us recalibrate our expectations for what a great team looks like.
