So far, six Patriot players said they aren’t going to the White House. Martellus Bennett, Devin McCourty, LeGarrette Blount, Alan Branch, Dont’a Hightower and Chris Long have opted not to go for their reasons.
Chris Long is the difference here because he is so far the only white player to state he’s not going. Since he’s announced he wasn’t going, fans have been saying, “he should meet the President, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity” or “he should go talk to Trump if he really wants change” and much harsher things because fans get very mad when you don’t do what they want you to do.
Twitter is the place where they’re spewing all this garbage for him not going and Chris Long had a rapid fire twitter session to let the fans know what’s up.
One person tweeted this to him and it got the ball rolling for Long.
@JOEL9ONE @OldSpice Be a man and go to the White House. True fan of yours since Cavs. Be tolerant not intolerant

He responded to it.
Sorry dude. I appreciate your support of me as a football player, but I just don’t get this tweet. https://t.co/TfmK7hbEmY

That got Long going and he laid out his thoughts about all of this.
