In the history of the NBA you won’t find many players pound-for-pound better than Allen Iverson and Russell Westbrook. Both are noted for their tenacious style of play with no backdown. That level of ferocity has had critics question their style of play but for me they both won and dazzled in Finals performances.
In a league where rest is a hot button issue, Russ brings it every night and has played in all 80 of the OKC’s games this season. Yesterday Westbrook cemented the MVP for the Basketball universe. Iverson was asked who compares most notably to himself during his playing days and pointed out the obvious answer.
“When it comes to heart, it’s a no-brainer. It’s Westbrook.”
Iverson captured the league MVP in 2001 as the leader of an underwhelming Sixers roster. That team won 56 games and eventually reached the NBA Finals. In similar fashion, Westbrook has stepped up as the leader for Oklahoma City after the departure of Kevin Durant. By now you are well aware of Westbrook capturing his 42nd triple double last night to break the record for most triple doubles in a season. What he’s doing is truly remarkable as an NBA time capsule season. He’s averaging just under 32 points per game to boot as well.
