Of course it makes sense for Mayweather he can make close to $100 million for an exhibition match, so if Dana White and McGregor have truly worked out their end, it should be easy for Mayweather to get the deal done.
Unless Dana White tries to do some crazy stuff like take over the promotion, which he shouldn’t because this is a boxing match not UFC, there shouldn’t be too many hurdles.
Here is what Mayweather had to say via UPROXX.
“I had a great career and my career may not be over,” he said. “Number 50 may be against Conor McGregor. We’ll just wait and see.”
“I think the fight will happen,” Mayweather said later. “We have to give the people what they want to see. If he signed a contract, when I get back in the US, I’ll communicate with my team and get Al, Leonard, and Steve on a call, what’s our next move. Most likely when we do make a move it’ll be a huge one. You already know, when Floyd Mayweather fights, it’s history. The only thing I’m doing now is chasing my own records.”
“If I do fight, it’s a 90% chance it’s against Conor McGregor,” Mayweather said. “The only fight that makes sense to me is Conor McGregor and it’s possible this fight could be made quickly … Conor McGregor is a professional and a stand-up fighter. He kicks ass in the Octagon while I kick ass in the boxing ring. At the end of the day, it’s all ass kicking.”
